WIS 45/100, in Franklin, Hales Corners, and Greenfield, in Milwaukee County (W. Puetz Rd. to W Layton Ave.).

Project overview

5.3-mile study to:

  • Evaluate need for additional lanes
  • Analyze traffic at all intersections
  • Evaluate access locations and median openings to improve highway safety and efficiency
  • Evaluate impacts of proposed improvement alternatives

Study outcomes to include:

  • Environmental Assessment (EA) document
  • Design Study report
  • Preliminary plan

This study to address long term safety and congestion needs that could not be addressed with the 2007 pavement resurfacing and maintenance project.

Status/phase

Study started in 2007. The study corridor has been split into two construction projects:

US 45/WIS 100 (County MM to College Ave.)

  • Environmental report (ER) approved Nov. 2011
  • Real estate acquisition is currently on hold
  • Reconstruction tentatively scheduled for spring of 2019

US 45/WIS 100 (College Ave. to Layton Ave.)

  • Environmental document approval anticipated spring 2014
  • Real estate acquisition anticipated to begin in early 2015
  • Reconstruction tentatively scheduled for spring of 2019
