US 41 expansion, Brown County - public involvement

Highway projects are cooperatively developed by the public, state and federal review agencies, and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT).

Preparing a major project like this one takes several years. An important component is an extensive effort to keep the public involved and informed.

Past meetings

  • New Oct. 7-8, 2009 - PIM was conducted to obtain comments on design plans for the reconstruction of the WIS 29 interchange at US 41 in Brown County. (Nov. 9, 2009)
  • Updated Sept. 9, 2009 - PIM was conducted to discuss Scheuring Road (County F) interchange. (Nov. 9, 2009)
  • Updated May 27, 2009 - PIM was conducted to obtain comments on design plans for the reconstruction of the WIS 29 interchange at US 41 in Brown County. (Nov. 9, 2009)
  • April 9, 2009 - PIM was conducted to obtain comments on preliminary plans for the reconstruction of the County F (Scheuring Road) interchange at US 41 in Brown County.
  • Nov. 27-28, 2007 - PIM was conducted.
  • March 27, 2007 - PIM was conducted to discuss the proposed design elements for US 41 between Memorial Drive and County M.
  • Jan. 10, 2007 - PIM was conducted to discuss the preferred alternative for the WIS 29 project from County J to US 41.
  • July 12, 2006 - PIM was conducted for the WIS 29 project from County J to US 41 on.
  • 2000 - Two PIMs were conducted during the development of alternatives for the US 41 6-lane expansion project.

Public hearings

Public hearings are usually conducted on federal-aid highway projects involving the acquisition of significant amounts of right of way, substantial changes to the layout or function of connecting roadways or of the facility being improved, and projects that may have a significant impact on adjacent properties

  • August 2002 - A public hearing was conducted.

News releases

Local government 

Project coordination with all municipalities was initiated on July 26, 1999. Coordination continued throughout the corridor planning process.

Early in the project development process, a meeting was conducted with local government representatives. The purpose of the meeting was to explain the project objectives, discuss the scope and schedule, and to obtain information on local land use issues and concerns. Representatives of the village of Ashwaubenon, city of De Pere, city of Green Bay, village of Howard, town of Lawrence, and Brown County attended the meeting.

Prior to the each of the public information meetings, a joint meeting was conducted with local government representatives to discuss the project. The project team met twice with each local government entity separately to discuss the various interchange alternatives. 

There was a local officials meeting was conducted in 2005 to update local governments on the US 41 expansion project's overview and schedule.
