WIS 29 (WIS 107-County O) - Need/purpose
Why is this project needed?
WIS 29 is one of the most important east-west roadways in the state highway system, linking Interstate travelers in western Wisconsin to eastern Wisconsin. This route is also part of the backbone system in the Wisconsin Corridors 2020 long-range transportation plan and the Connections 2030 long-range, multi-modal transportation plan. The Connections 2030 routes:
- Provide multimodal system links
- Provide safe, dependable access to and from Wisconsin communities
- Encourage regional and statewide economic development
Increase the safety of WIS 29, by eliminating the center turn lane and reducing the number of intersections and entrances to the highway. By minimizing crossing traffic you reduce the potential for accidents and improve stopping sight distances. Crews will also replace the deteriorating pavement.
Replacing pavement on WIS 29 will provide a smoother riding surface. Other improvements include:
- Upgrade the highway to current design and safety standards
- Improve safety by reducing direct access to the highway
- Improve the operations and safety of the highway to meet requirements for the 65 mph post-construction speed
- Improve drainage
