Project overview

This 18.4 mile segment has three major components:

Needs Assessment (NA)

  • Completed February 2004, in-depth NA study reviewed and analyzed transportation needs along US 51, Burma Rd. in McFarland to east side of Stoughton.
  • Analysis of operating conditions, Stoughton to I-39/90, completed.

Short-term improvements

  • Some of the issues identified in the NA can potentially be addressed with short-term improvements in the corridor.
  • WisDOT corridor management team is working to identify and implement improvements on an ongoing basis.

Alternatives analysis

  • Based on the findings of the NA, WisDOT has decided to proceed with an alternatives analysis that will identify and evaluate potential corridor improvements.
  • This analysis will involve development of long-term solutions to address the problems identified in the NA and completion of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
