US 51 freeway closures, blasting scheduled in Wausau next week

August 22, 2014

Northbound on-ramp closure scheduled to begin September 3

During the week of August 25, motorists traveling northbound and southbound on US 51 – between Bridge Street and Decator Drive, in Wausau – can expect to encounter brief (5 to 20 minutes) freeway closures at 10 a.m., 2 p.m., and 7 p.m. The freeway closures are necessary for crews to conduct blasting operations adjacent to the highway. Motorists are reminded to drive with caution as they approach the work zone and should be prepared to stop. To avoid delays associated with the closures, motorists may want to use alternate routes.

Crews are planning to close the northbound US 51 on-ramp from County K on Wednesday, September 3. The ramp will remain closed through November 1. Ramp traffic will be detoured via Business 51, Merrill Avenue/County U, Overlook Drive, County K and County WW.

The schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions and construction status.
