Winter storm expected significantly impact Thursday travels
February 19, 2014
Another winter storm will bring heavy snow to many counties in northwestern Wisconsin on Thursday and into Friday. The snow and wind is expected to significantly impact travel, especially later in the day on Thursday. A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for many counties in the region from 9 a.m. Thursday until 6 a.m. Friday. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) and the State Patrol will be monitoring road conditions throughout the next couple of days.
The 2014 Birkebeiner gets underway in Cable, Wis. with some events starting tomorrow. WisDOT is encouraging all participants and spectators to check weather forecasts and road conditions prior to leaving. It also might be appropriate to have overnight accommodations in the Hayward area so any return trips can be deferred until later on Friday. The same holds true for anyone planning to visit the ice caves at the Apostle Island National Park near Bayfield.
If you must travel tomorrow, check winter road conditions before leaving home by calling 5-1-1 or visiting Wisconsin 511 online. Winter driving tips can be found on WisDOT’s website. Road condition and other updates will also be posted at Twitter.
