Governor Walker approves Business 51 improvements in Rothschild
August 10, 2012
As part of his efforts to create jobs and make sure Wisconsin is open for business, Governor Scott Walker recently signed a $808,000 contract to improve 1.7 miles of Business 51 between Marathon County E and Everest Drive, in Rothschild.
Construction is scheduled to begin August 20, 2012.
American Asphalt of Wisconsin is the prime contractor for the project. Crews will mill two inches of the existing asphalt and replace it with two inches of new asphalt to improve the riding surface. Some curb and gutter will be replaced and inlets will be adjusted to improve drainage.
Business 51 will remain open to traffic during construction. Each lane will have an 11 foot maximum width restriction. Everest Drive will be closed to traffic beginning August 20 and will not reopen until October. Motorists can expect delays, single lane closures, lane shifts, side road closures, and flagging operations. To avoid delays motorists may want to allow extra travel time or take a different route.
Construction is scheduled for completion in mid-October 2012.
Eighty percent of the project will be paid with federal transportation funds; the remaining 20 percent will be paid with state transportation funds.
