I-39/US 51/Portage County X ramps scheduled to close Monday July 21

Local access to Interstate relocated to Casimir Road interchange
Crews plan to permanently close the I-39/US 51/Portage County X interchange on Monday, July 21, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT).
The northbound I-39 on ramp was permanently closed in November 2007. The removal of the three remaining interchange ramps is necessary for crews to construct a new free-flow interchange that will connect I-39 to the new US 10.
Following the closure of the County X interchange, local access to the Interstate system will be relocated to the newly constructed Casimir Road interchange, located approximately 1.9 miles to the south.
Repairs to the County X structure between North Second Drive and Scenic Drive are scheduled to begin in mid-August. County X will reopen to function only as an overpass in November 2008.
WisDOT is expanding 31 miles of US 10 between WIS 13 near Marshfield and I-39/US 51, north of Stevens Point. The new four-lane highway will bypass the communities of Auburndale, Blenker, Milladore and Junction City. New US 10 will also bypass downtown Stevens Point, west of I-39.
The US 10 expansion project will provide a highway facility that will safely and efficiently handle increasing traffic volumes.
The US 10 expansion project represents an estimated $234 million investment in central Wisconsin's transportation system. Construction began in 2006 and is scheduled for completion by 2012.
