Governor Doyle approves $80,000 project at Marshfield Municipal Airport
July 7, 2008
Governor Jim Doyle has approved an $80,000 project to maintain pavement at the Marshfield Municipal Airport. The Governor's action releases $64,000 in state funds to crack-seal, slurry-seal and re-mark the crosswind runway at the airport. The city of Marshfield is contributing $16,000.
According to Michael Gabor, airport engineering specialist with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the project will help prevent water infiltration and minimize oxidation effects, both of which cause pavement deterioration. Research shows that the relatively small cost of pavement maintenance significantly delays the very high cost of pavement reconstruction.
The project is scheduled to begin in mid-summer and should be completed by fall 2008.
Facilities at the Marshfield Municipal Airport include a 5,000-foot primary runway and a 3,600-foot crosswind runway that accommodate over 26,000 take-offs and landings each year.
