Governor Doyle approves $2,243,975 project at Outagamie County Airport
July 7, 2008
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $2,243,975 project to construct Phase 2 of the General Aviation Relocation project at the Outagamie County Regional Airport, in Appleton. The Governor's action releases $282,994 in state funds to continue work for the new general aviation area at the airport, which began in 2007. Outagamie County is contributing $282,995, and the Federal Aviation Administration is providing $1,677,986. Congressman Steve Kagen was instrumental in securing federal funds for the airport in the 2008 federal appropriations process.
According to Andrew Trimble, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, one of the main goals of the relocation is to provide separation between commercial and general aviation users of the airfield. This phase of the construction project will pave new taxiways and the new general aviation ramp.
The project is expected to be completed by August 2008.
The Outagamie County Regional Airport is home to 51 single-engine, 17 multi-engine and 4 jet aircraft, and is served by four airlines. All together, there are over 57,000 take-offs and landings at the airport each year.
