Governor Jim Doyle approves WIS 139 improvements in Florence County

May 23, 2008

As part of his “Grow Wisconsin” initiative to invest in Wisconsin’s infrastructure and stimulate our state’s economy, Governor Jim Doyle recently signed a $1.6 million contract to improve approximately 12 miles of WIS 139 between the Forest County line and the Michigan State line in Florence County.

Construction is scheduled to begin on June 2, 2008.

Northeast Asphalt, Inc. is the prime contractor for the project. Crews will resurface WIS 139.

Construction is scheduled for completion by late July 2008, according to Jim Volkmann, WisDOT project manager.

Motorists can expect to encounter flagging operations.

WIS 139 will be detoured for a maximum of four days in early to mid-June for the removal and replacement of two culverts. The detour route will follow WIS 70, WIS 55, M-73, US 2, and M-189.

Eighty percent of the project will be paid with federal transportation funds; the remaining 20 percent will be paid with state transportation funds.
