Local Bridge Improvement Assistance
The Local Bridge Improvement Assistance Program helps rehabilitate and replace, on a cost-shared basis, the most seriously deficient existing local bridges on Wisconsin's local highway systems.
Counties, cities, villages, and towns are eligible for rehabilitation funding on bridges with sufficiency ratings of 80 or less, and replacement funding on bridges with sufficiency ratings less than 50.
The 2014 National Bridge Inventory (NBI) list is now available. Contact your County Highway Commissioner for a copy.
As of March 6, 2015, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is accepting Local Bridge applications for the 2015-2020 Program Cycle. Applicants are required to review the application instructions and complete an application form for each eligible Local Bridge project. Applicants should also review the 2015-2020 Program Cycle Guidelines prior to application:
- WisDOT 2015-2020 Local Bridge Program application instructions
- WisDOT 2015-2020 Local Bridge Program application form
- WisDOT 2015-2020 program cycle guidelines
As part of the application process, applicants are required to prioritize all proposed projects. An Example of How to Prioritize Projects is provided to assist applicants with the completion of the Project Priority section of the application form. WisDOT Bureau of Structures has created a recommended bridge priority ranking and optimal work for each structure for the 2015-2020 Program Cycle. The recommended priority ranking for each county will be provided to each WisDOT Region office and County Highway Commissioner. The recommendation for optimal work is available on the WisDOT Local Project Tools webpage.
The application deadline is July 31, 2015. Questions on the application process should be directed to the appropriate WisDOT regional contact person listed below.
