DOT Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
The FRA promotes a safe, environmentally sound, successful railroad
transportation system. The site includes railroad safety data and reports,
FRA regulations, orders, and notices, railroad legislation, information on high
speed rail developments, and a section for children and educators.
American Railroads (AAR)
The AAR represents North America's major freight railroads and Amtrak. The
site includes position papers, discussion groups, railroad statistics, facts and
cost indexes, full text of speeches and testimony, video clips of their
"Highways or Dieways" public service campaign and information about
their services and products.
Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA)
The mission of AREMA is the development and advancement of both technical and
practical knowledge and recommended practices pertaining to the design,
construction and maintenance of railway infrastructure. The site has
information about the Association, some online publications, a calendar of
railroad industry events, and a list of consultants and suppliers.
Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA)
ASLRRA is a non-profit trade association that represents the interests of its
more than 400 short line and regional railroad members in legislative and
regulatory matters. The site includes information about the Association and full
text of position papers and testimonies, and railroad related links.
Association of Railroad Passengers (NARP) Wisconsin Association of Railroad
The NARP is an alliance of railroad passengers and citizens who advocate for use
of passenger trains and rail transit. The site offers passenger rail news and
legislative action, a calendar of nationwide passenger rail events, and tips on
passenger rail trip planning. The WisARP site has information on Midwest
passenger rail initiatives and links to online scientific publications on
Union of Railways (UIC)
The role of UIC is to promote cooperation between railway enterprises at world
level and to carry out activities to develop international transport by rail.
The site includes discussion boards, railroad timetables, a dictionary of
railroad acronyms, international statistics, environmental and high speed rail
information, and statistics for downloading. Most of the information is in
English, French and German.
This site is a gateway to international information about the railroad industry.
It includes information about international railroad projects, a catalog of
products and services, an alphabetical listing of contractors and suppliers, a
listing of conferences, exhibits and events, a listing government bodies and
organizations, and industry news.
The site has schedule and fare information, reservations, a station locater,
arrival status of trains, information on special offers and promotions, and news
and information about Amtrak itself.
