100th anniversary of State Highway Commission

Message from WisDOT Secretary Mark Gottlieb

The 100th anniversary of a Wisconsin transportation agency is an opportunity to recognize all the public and private individuals who have helped plan, build and maintain Wisconsin’s economically-vital transportation system over the last century.

At the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, we oversee a comprehensive transportation network that includes roadways, airways, waterways, railways and public transit systems, along with bicycle and pedestrian accommodations throughout the state. It’s an inter-connected system that literally “drives” Wisconsin’s economy by moving workers to jobs, raw materials to factories, finished products to markets, and travelers to their destinations.

It’s an enormous responsibility that we simply can’t meet alone. Since 1911, and continuing today, the state of Wisconsin is truly fortunate to enjoy strong partnerships with federal, state and local governments, and with private citizens, businesses and groups who help us achieve our transportation goals.

As we celebrate a century of transportation progress in Wisconsin, I want to sincerely thank all our partners who keep people and commerce in our state moving forward.

Sincerely,

Mark Gottlieb, P.E.
Secretary
Wisconsin Department of Transportation
