State Patrol Trooper/Inspector
Join the team of State Patrol Troopers and Inspectors who are dedicated to promoting highway safety and enhancing the quality of life for all Wisconsin citizens and visitors by providing professional, competent and compassionate law enforcement services.
The Wisconsin State Patrol recruits personnel on a year-round basis. Applications are available ONLY during a designated period prior to the Civil Service Examination. They are NOT available at any other time. Please monitor this web page for the date of the next announced application period and exam administration.

The trooper/inspector exam is a multiple choice exam that contains observation and recall; basic mathematics; analytical skills including reasoning and problem solving; interpersonal responsiveness and reliability, oral and written communications, effective work habits; ability to read and interpret complex written materials such as laws, policies and procedures. Successful candidates will undergo 21 weeks of basic program training at the State Patrol Academy in Fort McCoy, Wisconsin. Upon successful completion, applicants will be classified as either a State Patrol Trooper or Inspector. You will be required to serve a two-year probationary period.
State Patrol Trooper and Inspector positions are located throughout the state. Geographical placement for these positions shall be determined by academy class rank with the person having the highest-class ranking selecting the first vacancy of their choice. Therefore, applicants must be willing to accept any location throughout the state. Upon completion of the Academy, you may be eligible for moving expense reimbursement, temporary lodging and a stipend of $1,000.
